Mel Gibson’s blockbuster film The Passion of the Christ was filmed in Aramaic. It was the first time many Christians had heard the language. The film is being credited for inspiring Christians to learning how to speak Aramaic.
Ewan MacLeod, B.Sc. Hons., M.Sc., said the film sparked his own interest in Aramaic. Today he is the founder of JesusSpokeAramaic.com, an interactive Aramaic teaching website. MacLeod said: “Aramaic was the language spoken by Jesus and the disciples, and in which the Gospel was first preached. Learning this beautiful and ancient language enriches the lives of all who come to it, and makes the pages of the Bible come alive to our modern generation.”
