Who Is Author Angelique Harper on ‘Jane the Virgin’?

On the funny CW series Jane the Virgin, the protagonist Jane (Gina Rodriguez) is super excited to learn that her favorite author, Angelique Harper, is in town and staying at the Marbella. Jane is an aspiring romance novelist who is determined to meet Ms. Harper. Funniness ensues.

Harper is portrayed by Kathleen York who goes by the nickname Bird. While she’s appeared in tons of TV shows – Desperate Housewives, The West Wing, House M.D., CSI,  True Blood – she might be best known for her role as Naomi Judd (from ages 27-47) in the NBC miniseries biopic, Naomi & Wynonna: Love Can Build a Bridge. As you can imagine, Bird can sing. She can write a mean song, too. Her song “In the Deep” –which was featured in the 2004 Oscar winning film Crash–was nominated for an Oscar, too. Jane the Virgin airs Mondays at 9pm on The CW.
