Once upon a time The Simpsons was just a segment on The Tracey Ullman Show, but Homer and company were so popular they got their own show. The rest is TV history. (The Simpsons is the longest-running US sitcom of all time.)
Now Lip Sync Battle–a segment from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon–is trying to follow The Simpsons example and mine some independent gold. Lip Sync Battle hosted by LL Cool J will debut on Spike TV on April 2. The show taps into celebs’ inner karaoke fantasies, giving familiar tunes the over-the-top treatment. Justin Bieber, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Julianne Hough, Hota Kotb, Mike Tyson, Queen Latifah, Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, and Victoria Justice are among those who will perform on the new Spike series. Can Mean Tweets become its own show too?
