Smack-slinging British talking head Katie Hopkins thinks American singer Kelly Clarkson is disgustingly fat. Guess what? Clarkson doesn’t give a sh-t what Hopkins thinks. Anyway, Hopkins who? The conservative Hopkins, who has half a million Twitter followers, is an anti-fat crusader who “gained & lost 3.5 stones to prove fat people are lazy.” Seeing Clarkson on TV flipped an ugly switch in Hopkins’ fat-hating brain and she unleashed a series of mean girl tweets aimed at Clarkson–tweets that sounded a lot like the trolling that gets young, insecure, vulnerable girls to harm themselves.
Clarkson, while youngish, is neither insecure nor vulnerable. Nor is she about to let Katie Hopkins get under her skin. Told about the tweets, Clarkson responded: “Someone tweeted something about me? Oh, and she’s tweeted something nasty about me? That’s because she doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me. It’s a free world. Say what you will.” Clarkson’s 10 million Twitter followers agree.
