On the surface, the difference between Kaley Cuoco and Kate Upton is the difference between an old idea of America and a newer one. Kaley Cuoco is the older prototype of “America’s Sweetheart.” She’s on network TV, after all–nothing more old school than that! (Old school sure does pay though.) Upton, on the other hand, launched herself on social media–sending selfies around until people took notice. (It didn’t take long, as you can imagine. A video busted her out of a small modeling career into big time star.)
The two sexy stars represent different things. Cuoco (Cuoco-Sweeting, that is) is the girl-next-door of yesteryear: sweet, endearing, modest. She’s the kind of girl that will take her husband’s last name (almost) after marriage. Upton, you can bet, will remain Kate Upton–even if boyfriend and MLB star Justin Verlander becomes husband Justin Verlander. Cuoco doesn’t burn brideges. Upton, having achieved a rare level of stardom with blinding speed, may be more likely to torch them. “I feel like social media at this point is kind of bulls–t,” Upton told the Edit, an online magazine. Upton has around 2 million followers on that social media she discredits. It’s where she first bloomed in the public eye.
