Superstar pop duo Hall & Oates owned the charts in the 70s and 80s–and they own their name too, even if you spell it a little differently. The popular purveyors of blue-eyed soul have filed a lawsuit against a food company that calls its granola cereal Haulin’ Oats. The homonym sounds out of tune to the duo.
It’ll probably end up as a sponsorship deal, if the Brooklyn-based Early Bird Foods & Co. can afford to pay Daryl and John. Otherwise it’s “no can do.” Even if it can come up with the cash, Early Bird may have another problem. It didn’t get the worm this time–a Kentucky company got up earlier and started selling Haulin’ Oats granola last year. Hall & Oates cut a deal with them.
