Nicki Minaj’s hit song Anaconda was played on Humm FM, an Auckland-based radio station that broadcasts at 3:30 in the afternoon. The Broadcasting Standards Authority reviewed the song which they deemed “vulgar” and “overtly sexualized.” The Authority’s chairman Peter Radich wrote: “We find that the broadcaster did not adequately consider the interests of children when broadcasting a song which contained swearing and explicit sexual lyrics at 3.30pm.”
Humm FM wasn’t penalized but the radio station did acknowledge the inappropriateness of the song and permanently removed the song from its playlist, even though Anaconda is the tenth highest selling single in New Zealand.
