Thousands of Bolivians took to the streets to protest a time-slot change for The Simpsons. Yes, The Simpsons. This is a real story, not some weird coma dream. They really like the animated show in Bolivia, and for years it’s occupied the same time-slot on the Unitel network. When the station swapped it out for a reality competition show, Calle 7, fans were not happy. As the AV Club reports, “nearly 2,000 of them crowded the streets during heavy rain to make their voices heard, many of them wearing homemade costumes.”
The protest in La Paz — which was also dubbed the protest against garbage TV — worked. Homer and company have been returned to their usual time. There’s a lesson here for protest marchers worldwide. Perhaps your movement will have more success if you dress as cartoon characters.
