The race to this year’s Oscars just became far less interesting and much more predictable. Last night’s SAG Awards contained no real surprises. While some were expecting that either Birdman‘s Michael Keaton or The Imitation Game‘s Benedict Cumberbatch would upset the odds and win, that didn’t happen.
The Theory of Everything‘s Eddie Redmayne, Still Alice‘s Julianne Moore, Whiplash‘s J.K Simmons, and Boyhood‘s Patricia Arquette all took home statues. All four actors were already favorites to win at next month’s Academy Awards, and now that they have been honoured by the Screen Actors Guild, it’s almost certain that the Academy will follow suit (SAG members make up a significant voting bloc at the Academy).
