“When love ends, the only way to understand it is to go back to the start.” That’s the tagline of the new Hollywood musical The Last Five Years based on Jason Robert Brown’s off-Broadway show of the same title. The film stars the talented Anna Kendrick (Into the Woods, Pitch Perfect 2) and Jeremy Jordan (Smash). Together, and sometimes apart, the couple sings about their relationship over the last five years. It’s like a modern-day Funny Girl — Kendrick’s character is an aspiring actress like Barbra Streisand’s Fanny Brice who tells her story in flashbacks. Although The Last Five Years lacks the gorgeous, turn-of-the-century costumes and that breathtaking ride on the Staten Island Ferry in Funny Girl, Kendrick has the chops and charm on the big screen.
The release date for The Last Five Years film has not yet been announced (sometime in 2015) but you can check out the trailer below.
