William H. Macy, Brie Larson and Joan Allen have joined the cast of Lenny Abrahamson’s Room, based on the Booker-shortlisted novel by Emma Donoghue. The Irish novelist’s story about a mother and child kept prisoners in a small space for years has been adapted for the screen by the writer herself; she also serves as one of the film’s producers.
Production begins in Toronto this week, with additional filming planned for Pinewood Studios in England. This will be the first film that Lenny Abrahamson has made outside Ireland, following Adam & Paul, Garage, What Richard Did, and his most recent movie, Frank, which is currently enjoying rave reviews and receiving awards season-buzz. Macy has recently said he’s bored with acting; hopefully Room will get him excited again.
