John Herzfeld, writer, director, and close friend of Sylvester Stallone (they starred in Cobra together), has completed his film Reach Me. It wasn’t easy. He had to launch a Kickstarter campaign to wrap it up. Reach Me is about the effect a reclusive author’s self-help book has on variety of people living, loving and hating in Los Angeles. The ensemble cast includes Tom Berenger as the author, Stallone as a blogger, and Kyra Sedgwick as an ex-con, among others.
Robert Abele of The Los Angeles Times calls it “a kitchen-sink mess with no discernible narrative drive or thematic resonance beyond uninspired batches of bad behavior, gunplay, eccentricity and weak uplift.” Ouch. If true they may soon call the film, which just opened, the closer.
