The movie that made Nick Cannon famous, Drumline, is getting a sequel. Drumline: A New Beat continues to tell the story of Atlanta A&T’s marching band but this time – 14 years later – the lead is a young woman. Dani, portrayed by Alexandra Shipp (Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B), wants to become the first female section leader at Atlanta A&T.
Cannon said of the old and new Drumline: “People told me back then they went to an HBCU [Historically Black Colleges and Universities] because of that movie. That film made being in a marching band cool. I think this new one could have the same effect.” Cannon is one of the executive producers of the sequel. Look for his a cameo appearance in Drumline: A New Beat, which airs Monday, Oct. 27, at 9pm on VH1.
