Roxwell Films will produce a psychological thriller film based on Ed Sander’s 1971 book, The Family, about Charles Manson and his young followers–called the Manson “family”–who went on a killing rampage in California in 1969. Swedish filmmaker Jonas Akerlund, best known for his music videos for Madonna (Ray of Light), Lady Gaga (Telephone, Paparazzi), and U2 (Walk On), will direct. American Psycho screenwriter Guinevere Turner will bring what she knows about killing sprees to the set.
Actors haven’t been confirmed yet but Neil Vazquez at DoYouRemember came up with a great list including Joaquin Phoenix as Charles Manson, Gabby Hoffman (Louie, Girls) as Susan Atkins, High School Musical star Zac Efron as Charles “Tex” Watson, The Twilight Saga‘s Kristen Stewart as Leslie Van Houten, and Parenthood‘s Mae Whitman as Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme.
