Feminist icon Gloria Steinem will make a cameo appearance on the CBS drama ‘The Good Wife.’ In the episode, Dear God, which airs Sunday, October 5 at 9pm ET on CBS, Steinem (playing herself) will encourage private practice lawyer Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) to run for State’s Attorney. Last week, real life Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was prodded by The Good Wife character Eli Gold to call Alicia and encourage her to run, too.
Steinem has been an influential figure in politics and feminism since the 1960s. As a journalist, she won several important political assignments including covering George McGovern’s presidential campaign. She also toured the country with other notable feminists including lawyer Florynce Rae “Flo” Kennedy. Kennedy was one of the first black women to graduate from Columbia Law School, where she was admitted after threatening a discrimination suit. In 1974, People magazine called Kennedy “the biggest, loudest and, indisputably, the rudest mouth on the battleground where feminist activists and radical politics join in mostly common cause.” Fingers crossed Steinem will feed ‘The Good Wife’ writers a few of Flo’s famous lines for Alicia to use if/when she runs for State’s Attorney.
