A Dutch motorcycle gang called “No Surrender” has joined Kurds to fight the Islamic State group in Northern Iraq. And the Dutch public prosecutor spokesperson, Wim de Bruin, says that’s okay, it’s not a crime. Like other countries, the Netherlands has been trying to stop nationals from joining IS jihadists in Iraq and Syria.
While Dutch citizens cannot join the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) – it’s blacklisted as a terrorist organization – Dutch can fight alongside them. However if they commit crimes such as torture or rape on the Kurdish side, they will “of course be liable to prosecution.”
