Jerry Bruckheimer is turning his 1980 film starring Richard Gere, American Gigolo, into a TV show. 34 years ago, Gere played Julian, a self-absorbed male escort in Los Angeles who gets into trouble when one of his clients is murdered. Christopher Reeve (Superman) and John Travolta were both considered for the role of Julian. Fun fact: Travolta also “gave” Gere his roles in Days From Heaven, An Officer and A Gentleman, and Chicago.
Paramount Television is betting that the classic psychological thriller laced with sex and crime will make for good TV. And why shouldn’t they?! American Gigolo writer/director Paul Schrader (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull) will consult on the show. P.S. Paramount is also working on a TV adaption of the 1990 film Ghost and working with Fox to produce a live production based on the film Grease! starring John Travolta.
