Rumors have emerged from set of Batman v Superman that the movie will feature a female Robin, and Detroit’s WILX Channel 10 News is on the story. The local NBC affiliate reported from the Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University, where scenes from the film are being shot. An anonymous source has revealed – under threat of a $5 million lawsuit – that Jena Malone will play Robin. Malone has been spotted on the set, but it is not clear which character she will play.
Uproxx points “Robin rumors in Batman movies have been the norm since the early nineties, back when Marlon Wayans was rumored for the role after Batman Returns. Most are silly and don’t fit, but this one would actually fit with the narrative that was proposed back when Batman V. Superman was announced. If you’re taking your cues from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, it’s only right that you’d have a female Robin running around and doing Robin like things. Hell, she could even be Stephanie Brown AKA the other female Robin from the comics. Either way, I think it would fit and not in some bleeding heart way.” Of course, it is possible that the rumor is false, and that this is a piece of misdirection from Warner Brothers, as the studio is keen to keep as many secrets as it can about the movie it hopes will be a springboard to a major blockbuster series.
