Fans watching The Good Wife this week might have thought that new character, Ernie Nolan, looked familiar. He was the tall, well-dressed man who showed up at Alicia Florrick’s office with a check for $1.3 million (for Cary Agos’ bail). Well, he’s familiar to those who used to watch The Mentalist right after The Good Wife last season. Ernie Nolan is played by actor Michael Gaston who played Red John suspect Gale Bertram (boss of Teresa Lisbon and Patrick Jane) on The Mentalist, which will return to CBS in January 2015. Bertram wasn’t Red John, it turns out, but he was a bad, bad guy. Watch out, Alicia! TV usually typecasts.
TV viewers can also see Gaston in HBO’s The Leftovers. Opposite Justin Theroux, Gaston plays the mysterious, gun-toting, tobacco chewing Dean. And just last week, Gaston appeared as Henry Williams in the ABC pilot of How to Get Away with Murder starring Viola Davis.
