In Dying in the Light, Nicolas Cage plays a CIA agent. But of course since this is Nicolas Cage, there’s something extreme going on. This agent, Evan Lake, is forced into retirement due to frontotemporal dementia, a rare disorder similar to Alzheimer’s. When Lake discovers that his terrorist enemy Muhammad Banir (Alexander Karim) is not dead, Lake hires former agent Milton Schultz (Anton Yelchin) to track Banir down.
Taxi Driver writer/director Paul Schrader wrote the original screenplay but according to Variety, Dying in the Light has been “effectively taken away” from the acclaimed writer. According to Dying of the Light producer Todd Williams, “Paul’s cut of the movie deviated substantially from his own script.” Williams claims the film has kept 80% of Schrader’s version. They dropped the voiceover narration which is a shame, it worked so well for Cage’s performance(s) in Adaptation. There is currently no release date for Dying of the Light.
