Oh, how we wish this was a real thing. Actor Bryan Cranston is promoting the MLB postseason on TBS with a brilliant, hilarious video where he discusses a fictional one-man play inspired by baseball and Looney Tunes. “Why not dramatize the entire MLB postseason?” he asks. He faces problems with the project until he gets inspiration from Looney Tunes. “Any actor who tells you he is not inspired by Bugs Bunny is a liar, frankly, or just a hack,” says Cranston. Indeed.
The “play” looks to be both wonderfully moving and appallingly cheesy, with Cranston giving his line-readings the full Charlton Heston. The video also includes ballerina Misty Copeland and pitcher Pedro Martinez. Cranston gets emotional when he talks about the chance “to embody the great play-by-play men,” including Ernie Johnson, and Cranston the baseball fan tears up when he gets “to make my dream come true.” As a piece of promotion for a sports event, it’s priceless. As a piece of theater, well, we can only ever dream of a one-man play about baseball starring Cranston.
