The Japanese toy company Takara Tomy has made an Optimus Prime action figure that transforms into a non-working Sony PlayStation console. Chris Buek at ArcadeSushi wrote: “The 8-inch figure is a good representation of Optimus, with the head, form and overall color scheme we’ve come to expect from the Autobots’ leader.” It also looks great in console mode – no red or blue pieces showing.
Escapistmagazine reports that PlayStation Optimus Prime “is being released as part of a dual anniversary celebration: 2014 marks the 30 year anniversary of Transformers and the 20 year anniversary of the PlayStation brand. Along with the special Transformer, a series of 1/6 scale toys based on the lineup of PlayStation consoles will also be released for the double anniversary.” The Optimus Prime PlayStation Transformer will be released in 2015. Arcade Sushi expects it to go for about $119, the same price for the Megadrive Megatron.
