Actor Ed Harris is joining Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood and Jeffrey Wright in the HBO reboot, Westworld. It’s a sci-fi show based on a 1973 Michael Crichton film (Yul Brynner, James Brolin and Richard Benjamin starred in the original) about a theme park full of androids that fulfill dark human desires. Back then, Newsweek‘s Paul D Zimmerman wanted the film to go further than it did, noting “What’s the point of fantasy if it’s rated PG?” Lucky for sci-fi fans of the 21st century, this Westworld will be on the decidedly R-rated HBO.
But before setting foot on the set of Westworld, Harris will complete filming the action/drama/thriller The Adderall Diaries, based on writer Stephen Elliott’s memoir–which was described as “genius” by Vanity Fair. James Franco plays a writer (Elliott, founder of The Rumpus) with writers block, a drug problem and serious father issues. Harris plays Franco’s father.
