Claire Leeson had it tough growing up. The 24-year-old Brit was bullied and made fun of for her lack of natural beauty. Then she found Kim Kardashian and all that changed. Well not right away–first she had to find a surgeon or two. Because Claire Leeson, having noticed that life looked pretty good for Kim (and that the good life seemed to be almost completely due to her looks), decided on the quickest route to easy street. And $30,000 worth of cosmetic alterations later, Leeson looks a lot more like Kim Kardashian than she used to. Breast implants, hair extensions, whitened teeth and one of the few California tans in England–Leeson bought the whole package.
Most plastic surgeons still advertise the chance to look like your best self, not to become somebody else–it’s still mainly nip and tuck business, not a doppelganger service. But impersonation by surgery is nothing new. There’s another freak out there who paid a lot to look like Justin Beiber. And remember in LA Confidential, that pimp who had all his prostitutes surgically altered to look like movie stars? Johns would call asking for a night with the Veronica Lake. Some people feel the other way about it though–a few years back a guy sued Michael Jordan because he said he looked too much like the famous hoops star–the resemblance caused him “emotional pain and suffering, defamation and permanent injury.” Leeson, however, is happy. At least that’s what she told ITV.
