After a long battle with vocal-cord paresis, Art Garfunkel is back on stage singing. On the road this summer, he’ll be in South Carolina, New York, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, and that’s just in June. If you can’t catch one of his shows, you can tune in on May 31–HBO will broadcast the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony that took place last month at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Garfunkel, a 2009 inductee, helped induct his old friend Cat Stevens, who prefers to be called Yusef Islam. (Other inductees were: Peter Gabriel, Hall and Oats, KISS, Nirvana, and Linda Ronstadt.)
From Art’s Hall of Fame speech: “Y’know if Paul and Artie hadn’t split up around 1970 there’d be no room on the charts for Cat Stevens to come in and take over. Bridge Over Troubled Water had to go away so that Tea for the Tillerman could arrive. He owes me a big ‘thank you.’”
