The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum will open this year at his wife’s alma mater, Southern Methodist University. The Library boasts of having nearly 80 terabytes of electronic records including 200 million email messages – the largest of any presidential library today (there are 13). And that was before Twitter popularity. But in anticipation of the opening, the Library’s PR department opened a Twitter account. One of @GWBLibrary’s first tweets reminds folks that W. and Bono worked together on HIV/AIDS relief in Africa.
The Library and Museum website features videos of the White House pets – Scottish Terriers Barney and Miss Beazley who, for six years, were featured in White House holiday videos. And there’s an intriguing archive of artifacts from the two terms. Objects that the presidential couple used or received as gifts can be seen in 360 degrees, including a voting booth and butterfly ballot used in Florida during the 2000 Presidential election, the bullhorn W used at Ground Zero on September 14, 2001, and the TREK USPS bike Lance Armstrong gave the president after winning the Tour de France in 2002.
