Universal Pictures Stage Productions is developing “Animal House: The Musical” based on the 1978 John Landis movie National Lampoon’s Animal House. The movie was filmed for $2.7 million and went on to gross $141.6 million, making it one of the most profitable movies of all time.
Universal is also producing the national tour of “Bring It On: The Musical” based on the 2000 movie about competitive high school cheerleading. It went on to gross a mere $68 million. Both films received mixed reviews from critics but Roger Ebert proclaimed Animal House “the year’s best” and Bring It On “the Citizen Kane of cheerleading movies.” In a better world, a May-December romance between John Belushi and Kirsten Dunst would be slated for fall.
