Provocateur pop artist Larry Rivers is being put through the mill, posthumously. His 16-foot tall sculpture “Legs” is presently walking across a private lawn in Sag Harbor (the Hamptons) but some neighbors contend it’s “a structure, not sculpture” and argue it’s in violation of the Village Zoning Code. They want it hobbled. The Zoning Board of Appeals will make a decision next month.
The Larry Rivers Foundation recently made a large donation of the artist’s work to his alma mater NYU, including “Growing” – a series of films documenting the growth of his two daughters, Gwynne and Emma, during puberty. It includes footage of them naked, and was made without their consent. Sensitive to the daughters’ privacy, NYU returned the offending film to the Foundation. The daughters ultimately want the films given over to them, but the Foundation is, well, dragging its feet.
