The Italian painter Francesco Clemente, who presented several paintings as a jigsaw puzzle in 2009, is showing his latest work – a tarot card series of 78 watercolor portraits at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Each painting depicts a celebrity friend of his as a mystic power: Philip Glass is Judgment, Salman Rushdie is the King of Swords, and the almighty fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg is the Force. Clemente is planning to create actual sets of his tarot cards to sell in the gift shop where one can purchase the book, Francesco Clement: The Tarots, and postcards of Michaelangelo’s David, a long-standing celebrity resident of the Uffizi.
