After I started Switch, things took off! Growing quickly was a great problem to have, but it was a big problem — and one I was not prepared for. The challenge was most clearly reflected in our cash flow projections and bank balance. We kept growing and needing more money to finance the growth. I set out to solve the problem by putting together a written proposal for a loan from a local lender. The proposal went to the board, and they had a flood of questions. The proposal was long and answered many questions, but it left them with even more. Since I was looking for money for a video business, I went back to the drawing board (literally!) and decided to take a crack at making it visual.
I took a 30-page proposal and turned it into a 300-word script. I added visuals and voiceover and shared the final video. The end result? It was approved with no questions. By taking the written word, shortening what I was sharing, and adding visuals, I was better able to convince them to fund me. Sometimes the written word needs a bit of help, and visuals can provide just the right boost.
