Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy blasted California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s Florida visit, sharing a snark-filled takedown of Newsom without adding a word. The article by The Babylon Bee — a satirical publication that contends “Big Tech and woke Twitter mobs are suppressing conservative voices” — publishes fake news in the style of The Onion, all in service of promoting MAGA ideology.
McCarthy shared the post without noting that it’s satirical.

The opening line reads: “California Governor Gavin Newsom made a surprise visit to Florida this week, as even he can’t stand being in California anymore.” The article goes on to fabricate fake quotes from the Governor, such as Newsom saying:
“It’s so great to be among the great people of Florida, on the other side of the country, miles, and miles, and miles away from California. I feel so sorry for you people living under DeSantis’s tyranny, what with your clean sidewalks, safe neighborhoods, and beaches with no tent cities on them. So terrible!”
Newsom is in Governor Ron DeSantis‘s Florida as part of his ‘Campaign for Democracy‘ — which many believe is also a precursor to a Newsom presidential run. (That means there were two governors in Florida yesterday who are most likely running for president.)
Newsom’s multiple state tour is meant to, as he says, protect Democrats in red states from the extremist tyrannical Republican minorities who run those states, banning books and abortion and everything but guns. “Extremist Republicans are systematically attacking the very foundations of our free society,” Newsom says. “It’s un-American. It’s un-democratic.”
