Country singer and songwriter (and registered nurse!) Lauren Mascitti is auditioning on American Idol this season. The 28-year-old moved to Nashville a couple of years ago to pursue her music career and along the way met two-time Grammy Award-winning country artist Shawn Camp, who is 53. The two are engaged to be married.
Camp, who has co-written songs for Loretta Lynn, Garth Brooks, Blake Shelton, Josh Turner, and Brooks & Dunn, among others, was nominated for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame this year.
Camp won two Grammy Awards: “Best Bluegrass Album” for The Earls of Leicester (2014) and “Best Folk Album” for My Favorite Picture of You (2013).
His album This One’s For Him: A Tribute To Guy Clark was also nominated for BEST FOLK ALBUM at the 2013 Grammy Awards but the award went to Yo-Yo Ma for his album The Goat Rodeo Sessions.
Shawn Camp has released a total of six solo albums including his debut, eponymous album (see left) which was released in 1993.
Spoiler alert: Camp accompanies Lauren to her Idol audition and yes, she gets a golden ticket.
American Idol airs Sundays at 8 pm on ABC.
