At 37, singer Marina Chello is one of the oldest artists competing on Season 17 of The Voice. Born in Uzbekistan, Chello moved to New York at the age of 11 and says listening to American music helped her learn English. In 2007, she had a big hit with her single “Sideline” with P.Diddy’s Bad Boy Records, but took a break from music when she married and had a baby. More than ten years later and she’s working with country music star Blake Shelton.
Check out the video above of Marina with P. Diddy and Harve Pierre who was president of Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Bad Boy Records and his label Crazy Joint. Marina was his first artist. “Top 40 smoker,” is how Pierre describes Marina in the promotional video; Diddy agrees and reiterates, “We got a smoker.”
For her Blind Audition on The Voice, Chello sang P!nk’s “Walk Me Home” and got both Blake and Kelly Clarkson to turn their chairs.
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
