On the sixth round of auditions for Season 14 of America’s Got Talent, judges Simon Cowell, Julianne Hough, Gabrielle Union and Howie Mandel will be treated to a performance by Louisiana bluesman Robert Finley. The blind Vietnam Veteran isn’t really an amateur. He’s released two albums including Goin’ Platinum which was produced by Dan Auerbach, guitarist and vocalist of the rock band The Black Keys.
The 10-track album featuring Finley’s “ethereal falsetto” was produced via Auerbach’s label imprint, Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. Auerbach says the title came from Finley. “He was just beaming from the second he walked in the door,” Auerbach says. “Every time he’d listen to playback, he’d say, ‘It’s goin’ platinum.’ That was his catch phrase.”
During an interview with NPR, Auerbach said the hardest part about working with Finley was working around his blindness. “I had to tell him the words. I had to recite and kind of sing line by line, and but he’s a quick learner.” America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 pm on NBC.
