In the Chicago Fire episode “The Plunge,” Cruz (Joe Minoso) leads the charge in getting the firehouse geared up for the annual Polar Plunge for charity. Meanwhile, Foster (Annie Ilonzeh) has an awkward encounter with Jim Shaw, the doctor she hooked up with the week before (in the episode “Make This Right“). Foster told him she wasn’t looking for a serious relationship but that didn’t stop Jim from asking her out again. She said no but the doctor won’t give up.
In “The Plunge,” when Foster shows up for work, Jim startles her in the parking lot. “I want to see if you want to give it another shot,” he says. She says “nothing has changed” and then asks if he’s been calling her from an unlisted number. He unconvincingly denies it by saying “I don’t think so.” Foster doesn’t beat around the bush. She tells him, “I don’t find any of this romantic or cute.” While Jim says he hears her “loud and clear” he also softly threatens her: “I think you’re making a huge mistake. But that’s your prerogative, right?”
Creepy Dr. Jim Shaw is portrayed by actor Patrick Mulvey. The Chicago native is known for his roles on Empire (SwiftStream CEO Jago Locke), The Mob Doctor (Gio Patton), and in the 2015 film Heart of Wilderness (Travis), among others. Fun fact: Mulvey made his Broadway debut as Billy’s abrasive big brother Tony in Billy Elliot in 2011.
