In the God Friended Me episode “Ready Player Two,” Miles (Brandon Michael Hall) turns to his father, Reverend Arthur Finer (Joe Morton), for help when he learns that his latest friend suggestion was adopted after being dropped off at Arthur’s church as a baby. Meanwhile, Cara (Violett Beane) meets Susan, a woman whose past experiences provide insight into God’s Facebook account, at a park.
Susan on God Friended Me is portrayed by Rachel Bay Jones. The stage actress and singer won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in the musical Dear Evan Hansen (she plays Evan Hansen’s mother, Heidi). She also played Pippin’s lover Catherine in the 2013 Broadway revival of Pippin. Jones made her big screen debut in the 2018 film Ben Is Back with Julia Roberts (as Beth, the mother of Ben’s deceased ex-girlfriend). God Friended Me airs Sundays at 8 pm on CBS, right before NCIS: Los Angeles.
