In the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode “In Loco Parentis,” the personal and professional life of NYPD Detective Carisi (Peter Scanavino) collide. He opens a police investigation when his college student niece Mia (Ryann Shane) claims a classmate sexually assaulted her. It’s a tough case for everyone involved including Benson (Mariska Hargitay) who warns Carisi, “Right now, your credibility is zero.” When brought on the stand to testify, Carisi is asked to tell what his 18-year-old niece told him but he has difficulty. It could ruin his career.
Mia’s mother, Carisi’s sister Teresa, is portrayed by Rachel Bay Jones. Jones is a stage actress best known for her role as Evan’s mother Heidi in the Broadway musical “Dear Evan Hansen” which won a 2018 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. She’s also recognized for her role as Catherine in the 2013 revival of Pippin. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit airs Wednesdays at 9pm on NBC, right after The Blacklist and right before Chicago P.D.
