In the Fresh Off the Boat episode “Sub Standard,” Jessica (Constance Wu) is worried when she learns that Eddie’s (Hudson Yang) substitute English teacher, Mr. Grant, has thrown out the class syllabus and is using a “radically progressive” technique for instructing his students. Jessica decides to find out for herself exactly what he’s teaching (and how) by sitting-in one of his classes, which of course embarrasses her teenage son Eddie.
Substitute English teacher Mr. Grant on Fresh Off the Boat is portrayed by Ryan Hansen. He’s known for his roles on Teachers (Brent), 2 Broke Girls (Caroline’s boyfriend Andy), Bad Teacher (Joel Kotsky), Burning Love (Blaze), Friends with Benefits (Ben Lewis), Party Down (Kyle Bradway), and Veronica Mars (Dick Casablancas), among others. Fun fact: Hansen’s wife was a former roommate of Veronica Mars (SEE LINK ABOVE) star Kristen Bell. Fresh Off the Boat airs Fridays at 8 pm on ABC, right before Speechless.
