America’s Got Talent is known to have visual artists perform on the talent competition. Many acts feature dancers who perform in-sync with a light show. But STORYNEST is different. It is a virtual reality show created by art director Hsin-Chien Huang from Taiwan. After moving to the U.S. to study art and design and engineering at Art Center College of Design and Illinois Institute of Technology, he partnered with American avant-garde artist Laurie Anderson, who was married to the late Lou Reed until he died in 2013.

Together, Hsin-Chien and Anderson created the VR experience “La Camera Insabbiata” (translated “The Shelved Camera), which won the Best VR Experience Award at the Venice Film Festival in 2017. The VR experience features a crazy world of chalk rooms (the walls, floors and ceilings are slate chalkboards). What’s written on them with white chalk represents memories. The words and drawings in chalk move but are never erased. See trailer below. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
