America’s Got Talent will dive right into the audition process on the Season 13 premiere (Tuesday, May 29). During the show, the judges — Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B and Howie Mandel — meet 14-year-old rapper, Flau-jae from Savannah, Georgia. Flau-jae’s come with her mother who is watching off-stage with host Tyra Banks. Before performing, Flau-jae explains that her father was a rapper too. He died before she was born. The song she performs, which she wrote, is about him and includes the lyrics: “If he would’ve put that gun down, then he would’ve been here right now.” Flau-jae’s late father was rapper Camoflauge. He was 21 when shot dead outside of a recording music studio in 2003.

This isn’t Flau-jae’s first time on television. She was a contestant on Season 3 of The Rap Game on Lifetime. Flau-jae was one of the younger of the five young rappers working with music producer Jermaine Dupre. (Rapper Nova won the competition and the coveted contract with Dupri’s So So Def Records that season.) After her original performance on America’s Got Talent, Flau-jae receives a standing ovation from the audience and the judges. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
