My 600-lb Life follows the life of Alicia — but the 2-hour episode also stars her boyfriend of six years, Tim. When they met, Alicia says they were both addicts. Tim was addicted to drugs; Alicia to food. Tim says the first thing he noticed about Alicia was her carefree spirit and her laugh. “Her size didn’t bother me,” says Tim. But now Tim says “It’s like she’s a totally different person. And our relationship has grown stagnant.”
As time goes on, “Alicia doesn’t want to do anything at all,” says Tim. “She just wants to sit in front of the TV and eat.” It’s heartbreaking to hear Tim say, “It’s frustrating because we have a life to live together.” Alicia admits, “Tim got clean, and now I’m the one killing myself.” The only thing that gets Alicia out of the house is a lack of food at home. She drives herself to the grocery store, which is painful and embarrassing. But as Alicia says she can’t wait for Tim to get home. There is hope here and the relationship between Tim and Alicia is genuine and not just that of people suffering together. You really want to root for them to make it. As Tim says, they have a life to live. My 600-lb Life airs Wednesdays at 8pm on TLC.
