On the Gotham episode “A Dark Knight: The Demon’s Head,” while Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) investigates the meaning behind the 2000-year-old knife he bought at the auction, unbeknownst to him he puts the lives of Gotham Natural History Museum historian Niles Winthrop and his grandson Alex (Benjamin Stockham) in jeopardy.

Niles Winthrop is portrayed by veteran actor Dakin Matthews. He’s known for his roles on The King of Queens (Kevin James’ father Joe Heffernan), Gilmore Girls (Hanlin Charleston), and Soul Man (Bishop Peter Jerome), among many others. Matthews is also well recognized for his roles in the films Bridge of Spies (Judge Byers), True Grit (Col. Stonehill), Lincoln (John Usher), and The Fabulous Baker Boys (Charlie). Matthews is also an accomplished stage actor. He most recently starred in the Broadway hit Waitress. Gotham airs Thursdays at 8pm on FOX.
