The August 17 episode of Battle of the Network Stars looks like an unfair battle at first sight. The actors who played The Hulk (Lou Ferrigno) and Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) are teaming up against actors who played cops on TV. One of the five members of the TV cops team is Fred Dryer who is well recognized for his starring role in the 1980s cop show Hunter as Detective Sgt. Rick Hunter.

But before becoming an actor, Fred Dryer was a successful football player in the NFL. The 6’6″ defensive end played at San Diego State University before he was a first round draft pick of the New York Giants in 1969. Dryer went on to play for the Los Angeles Rams for 10 years. He retired from the NFL in 1981 and landed the role of Hunter in 1984. Check out his latest acting (and producing) endeavor, Highway 396 — Dryer plays the sheriff. Battle of the Network Stars airs Thursdays at 9pm on ABC.
