On The Carmichael Show episode “Evelyn and Vernon,” when Jerrod’s mother Cynthia (Loretta Devine) finds out her parents are having marriage problems she starts to look at her marriage with Joe (David Alan Grier) differently. Cynthia’s mother Evelyn is portrayed by Starletta DuPois (The Notebook, Big Momma’s House, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Hollywood Shuffle). Her father Vernon is portrayed by 83-year-old actor Bill Cobbs.
