When 21-year-old singer Yoli Mayor auditioned on America’s Got Talent, Season 12, the unexpected happened. While singing the 1956 Jay Hawkins song “I Put a Spell on You,” AGT judge Simon Cowell stopped her performance and asked if she could sing something else, something not quite so “old.” With the help of host Tyra Banks, Yoli removed some of her vintage jewelry and sang the 2014 Ed Sheeran version of the Foy Vance song “Make It Rain.” Yoli’s second song choice was perfect. She received standing ovations from all four judges and advanced to the Judge Cuts.

Yoli is known to sing Adele songs but her “biggest inspiration” is the late great Amy Winehouse. Check out Yoli singing “Back to Black” below. One of her fans, Dan Kushla, wrote: “You need to find unique arrangements of classic soul songs like Amy did – this will blow you out of the water.” America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
