In his Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, former FBI Director James Comey revealed that he had a “fair number of meetings” with President Obama about how to protect America against Russian interference in the American election system. Yet despite holding the FBI director job under the Trump administration from January until he was fired in May, Comey told the Committee that he didn’t recall any conversations with President Trump about keeping the American process safe from Russian interference.

“Did the president in any of those interactions that you shared with us today ask you what you should be doing, or what our government should be doing or the intelligence community, to protect America against Russian interference in our election system?” is how Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) put the question to Comey. “I don’t recall a conversation like that,” Comey said.
