On the Girls episode ‘Painful Evacuation’, while Adam (Adam Driver) walks away from his acting job and Ray (Alex Karpovsky) discovers that a regular customer at the coffee shop has died, Hannah (Lena Dunham) gets to interview author Ode Montgomery. Dressed in a “Typical Boy” sweatshirt, Hannah asks Ode, “Is being a writer and being a woman as hard as it seems?” Ode tells says “Harder.”
Ode Montgomery is portrayed by comedic actress Tracey Ullman. She’s known for her variety sketch shows The Tracey Ullman Show, Tracey Takes On…, and her current series on HBO, Tracey Ullman’s Show. She’s also recognized for her roles in the films Jumpin’ Jack Flash (Fiona) with Whoopi Goldberg, Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway (Eden Brent), and I Love You to Death (Rosalie) with Kevin Kline and the late River Phoenix, among others. Girls airs Sundays at 10pm on HBO.
