In The Simpsons episode ‘The Caper Chase’, Mr. Burns isn’t the only rich businessman to start his own for-profit university by cashing in on student loans (ahem, Trump University) but he is (perhaps) the only one to hire Homer Simpson as a professor. Burns turns to fellow Yale graduate Bourbon Verlander to roll out the new scheme school.
[Left: Before Seinfeld, Jason Alexander won a Tony Award for his role in Jerome Robbins’ Broadway]
Bourbon Verlander is portrayed by Jason Alexander. Alexander is known for his roles on Seinfeld (George Costanza) and in the films Shallow Hal (Jack Black’s friend Mauricio) and Pretty Woman (Richard Gere’s friend Philip), among others. Fun fact: Alexander also starred in the 2012 Nickelback music video “Trying Not to Love You” (see below). The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX.
