The Blind Auditions for Season 12 of The Voice are over. Now the artists are getting ready for the first Battle Round. During rehearsals, coach Gwen Stefani introduces her team to four-time Grammy Award winner Céline Dion. Gwen is pitting Johnny Gates against Sammie Zonana and they’re singing what Johnny refers to as Céline’s song “I Drove All Night.”
Well, it’s not exactly just Céline Dion’s song – it was first made popular by Cyndi Lauper in 1989. The song was actually intended for Roy Orbison who recorded it in 1987 (he died in 1988) but his version wasn’t released until 1992, after Lauper’s version of “I Drove All Night” hit the Top 10. Céline Dion released her version in 2003. Lauper receive a Grammy nomination for the song; it was her last Top 40 song to date. Orbison’s version got a music video featuring actors Jason Priestly and Jennifer Connelly (see below). The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
