Rep. Joseph Kennedy illuminated a very important distinction about the new GOP health care plan when it comes to mental health coverage — bringing to light a fact that Sen. Elizabeth Warren believes everyone should understand. Kennedy gets very simply to his point, saying the new proposal requires that “if you offer mental health benefits, they have to be offered in the same as physical health benefits are. It does not mandate the offering of mental health benefits.”
Kennedy says that page 8 of the new proposal makes clear that “mental health benefits are not required now by federal law — it would be up to the states to actually impose.” Senator Warren tweeted the video, adding “Anyone who cares about access to mental health care benefits under the GOP health plan needs to watch.”
Anyone who cares about access to mental health care benefits under the GOP health plan needs to watch @RepJoeKennedy’s video right now. https://t.co/Pj2bQQrGHw
